Never any Towers
« on: January 09, 2016, 11:56:51 am »

I have genned several worlds in .42 and have never got any necromancer towers. I ramp secret number up to max but to no avail. Genning large worlds with long histories tends to just crash DF. Perhaps there is a way to edit raws so DEATH sphere is more prevalent, or something. (Sorry if this has been asked a million times before.)

Also, if you ever figure out why poets/bards/dancers just randomly start butchering people/getting butchered, please don't fix it, I love never knowing when a dance party will turn into a slaughter.

Here's a worldgen that should generate with 10 towers, in a pocket world.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The parameters that lead to lots of towers are: lots of civs, lots of sites, a few Secrets, hundreds of years, and lots of death.
The trick is to keep the civs alive, while having lots of deaths.  Of course, each goal is easy on their own, but together, quite challenging sometimes.  8)
A single Dragon, for example (with no other "fantastic" enemies in the world, at all) can easily wipe out 30 civs on its own.

High secret count won't help if there is no one to reveal those secrets to potential necromancers. Increasing the number of civilizations in the worldgen also increases the chance for gods associated with death. That makes more necromancers possible and in time they will build your towers.

Try setting civilization count to at least 50-60; possibly more if your computer can handle it. It should give you more towers than you'll know what to do with.

Thanks. I upped civs to 60 and got a tower. Now just got to steal the slab and put it in a public library.
