I've run into some new dilemmas but also a new source of ideas for stuff that'd be fun to solve.

A very early test showed the control scheme's a bit unintuitive, so I'm considering switching to mouse-based control. With that I'd like to add the ability to control multiple characters on a tactical battlefield and give the enemies slightly better AI.

This would also mean adding in stuff like gear, extra items, a few extra layers of UI work, and a few changes in formula to make sure it all fits. I do want to keep in the keymap on screen or easily accessible as a control hotkey reference, though!

This is only tangentially related, but Amihailu's World of Magic isn't my only retro Japanese-PC themed game. I'm also making an adventure game called Hell Diary which features a YM2203 FM soundtrack. That one will probably be done a lot quicker, since all of the basic stuff works and I just need to add in NPCs and story stuff.

I'm not dead! I've just not been able to work on this game at all due to some personal stuff that went on in my life.

If you like what you see here though and you'd like to get the game made, you can pledge to my patreon and get a nifty reward while you're at it!

I should be able to get back on the wagon with this after releasing Amihailu in Dreamland's 1.10/Greenlight update!

I'm slowly ramping development back up. I've decided to do the music with PC-9801-86 hardware, which is OPNA + 8-bit 86 PCM. The sample tables will be more limited in size, but they'll sound clearer than ADPCM or SSGPCM.

Tell me: what's a good amount of content for a demo, do you think?

The demo should be as long as it needs to be in order to tell the player what playing your game is like. A demo gives people an opportunity to decide if they don't like your game before they buy it. If you don't think a small portion of your game's story or gameplay is going to represent your full game well, then I would say don't release one at all.

Luckily with this kinda title (dungeon-crawling RPG) it's easier to develop a nice vertical slice, especially since the story is so weird. I'll make sure it's got enough in there for a good taste though.
