Minecart dumping water[833] down stairs

If you dump a minecart full of water[833] down a stairway, will it drop a boulder of water[833] down the stairs and resolve to 2/7 of water after it collides at the bottom (similar to a minecart shotgun), or flow 2/7 of water down the stairs?

I doubt anyone's tried it.
Sounds deadly if it stays in boulder form though.
