Engravings and HIDDEN FUN STUFF (spoilers)
« on: January 28, 2008, 01:59:00 am »

Back in the old version, engraving dwarves would occasionally create images of "a demon. The demon is in a fetal position" or "The demon is swirled into a spiral", even before you'd reached the adamantine.
I've never seen this in the new version, but I've never found adamantine either. If you're on a site with adamantine, will the dwarves detect its presence (and the demons) and engrave accordingly?
It's a very hypothetical long shot, but it'd be awesome if there were a way to detect whether or not your map had adamantine.

A way to detect hidden fun stuff? Yes, that would be useful...  ;)

Only works on the embark stage.

"A Demon" refers to the mega adamantium game ender guy.  Supposedly they engrave the images of the Demon because of ancient stories about him being sealed away or somesuch.

It's similar to the civilians in towns telling you of a "demon encased in adamantine in a time before time". I don't doubt that in adventure mode, the engaving will show as "related to the encasing of So-and-So the demon in adamantine in 0."

I don't care what demon engravings indicate.

I want to indicate what an engraving in my current fortress indicates:

The evil unwelcome paints of suffering.
Engraved on the wall is an exceptionaly designed image of a dwarf and cheese. The dwarf is making a plainitive gesture, the cheese is laughing.

here is my rendition of said engraving:

engravings like this are all over my fort
I think it is the symbol of my civilization or something, but I have yet to mint some coins

Adventurer mode should give you more detail about the context behind art images. Back up your save and send an adventurer down there.
