Unexpected ghost
« on: December 14, 2015, 08:19:46 pm »

So a wereweasel killed my fisherdwarf a dwarfyear ago, and I built a coffin and designated it for burial, which was then assigned by the game to the dead fisherdwarf.
Only thing is, his corpse is in the water. But I thought that didn't matter.

But now, a year later, his ghost has risen. I have a ghostly fisherdwarf haunting my fort. I am engraving a slab, see if that will put it to rest.

So apparently, just designating a coffin isn't enough anymore to keep ghosts from rising. Looks like you need to make sure you actually bury the remains in it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

EDIT: Yup, building a slab for it put the ghost to rest.

This has been how it works for quite a while.  If you can't bury the upper body, you have to slab 'em.

in .34.11 my dwarves' ghosts didn't go away until their remains were stored. Specified tomb or not.
