Toady has fixed the "Marksdwarves won't use training bolts unless combat bolts all used up" bug in upcoming version 0.42.03, along with the already completely awesome list of long-standing bugs he's fixed!

From the bugtracker notes:

Quote
Yeah, I went with the carry-both-while-training option, and my test dwarf did a few rounds of training properly while also carrying combat bolts. There will still be problems if they are interrupted or something, but it should be a lot better than before.

I'm heading over to the Donate http://www.bay12games.com/support.html page right now, just as soon as I finish doing a little dance. :P

I hope you're wrong, and 0.42.03 will be the best version yet, with future ones even better. I'd hate for the following ones to go downhill...

ha! good point, I guess I should have said "best version to date" -- no doubt it'll only get more amazeballs from here. :D

I'm just so excited that I'm going to be able to use Marksdwarves that will train and fight without requiring neverending micromanagement of manually dumping their metal bolts out of their quivers one by one so they'll pick up wood/bone ones to train with.  AND we get goblin squads fixed so they don't go comatose when their squad leader dies or is caged? It's going to be so good. :D

PS: does anyone know if Toady prefers automatic recurring paypal donations or Patreon at this point?  From the sound of it it looks like Patreon takes a bigger "cut" of 5% + the credit card fees.

I think if I were Toady, I would be frustrated by the cut taken by a third party. But I would also appreciate knowing exactly how much to expect each month. It's so much easier to budget for.

They said the walls were impregnable. You didn't have to prove me wrong by giving birth on them.

Both Paypal and Patreon take a 'cut', I'm just not sure which of the two takes a bigger cut.  Paypal actually has an option to do a recurring payment just like Patreon does so I imagine that results in the same monthly reliability.  I went ahead and did the recurring Paypal option since I'd rather see more of the $ actually reach Toady than go to some middle-man. :P

Will Paypal tell the person receiving the money that you're sending them recurring payments though?

Not only this, but supposedly herbalists will be able to gather non-plant growths (e.g. walnuts, feather tree eggs)!

I'm excited.

You guys missed some...important ones:

Quote from: Mantis Issue Tracker
- 0004552: [Dwarf Mode -- Combat] Siegers waiting by bodies of dead leaders (Toady One) - resolved.
- 0001598: [Dwarf Mode -- Combat] Enemy squads will never abandon their caged leader (Toady One) - resolved.

I haven't played a fort in years, but I'm really getting the itch again. Looks "fun." Main issue I'm wondering about is the stuff with the fortifications, but it might be possible to work around a lot of that.

Make marksdwarves wear lots of head-to-toe heavy armour. Mod crossbows to be very heavy, very powerful, very slow. Voila! Dwarven tanks.
