Short of disbanding the squad I can't get my soldiers to go take care of their needs.
I tried assigning no orders for the month, and setting them to inactive, but they are still training.
Is there a way to make my troops slightly less devoted?

Are they training regardless of other needs?
Off-duty soldiers will still do individual training a lot of the time because they enjoy it. But if they're getting stressed at being unable to pray or whatever then you should probably report it as a bug.

Make sure they have no training order, and then unassign their squad from all training rooms.

Yeah, the most important part is making sure there is no barracks active for inactive squads to train at.

If you disable their barracks, and they were already there training, that training will continue till they are done. A quick way to get them off that disabled barracks until you re-activate it is to give the squad a move order and then cancel it after a second or so.

That's a fine workaround, but off-duty soldiers never used to starve themselves or neglect booze breaks by individually training in previous versions. If they're neglecting their needs and getting stressed about it, it's a new bug and should be reported with your save. That's what the bug-stomping phase is for after all.

I'm talking mental and spiritual needs here. Setting to inactive and assigning their barracks works. Frustrating that you can't just schedule it.

Yes, I've faced this issue too. Soldiers not actively training will still drill individually, neglecting their prayer needs and making them distracted, leading to inefficient soldiering.

Yeah, it happens. I don't think it's a bug even, however, even while NOT on active training they don't go to temples and taverns.

Just gotta disband the barracks occasionally.

I have 3 barracks with 2 squads a piece and I just periodically free the room and put a squad to inactive. This is obviously not ideal but it works.

Sounds like a bug to me. Who ever heard of soldiers not hitting up the taverns when on leave?
