Loading adventure mode always crashes.
« on: December 02, 2015, 05:06:42 pm »

When trying to load up in adventure mode it gets to day 5 during the game set up, then it crashes every time. If I try in Fortress mode, seems to crash at day 2. Newly generated Medium Island, with slightly altered figures (a few more beasts and such) is anyone else having this problem? Tried changing between Ascii and CLA graphics, but it didn't seem to affect it.

EDIT: Created several worlds (medium) still crashes.

Yeah, even with just the basic game with no tools, mods or anything it is crashing constantly, it's impossible to get into the game in any way, and sometimes crashes during world gen. Off to the bug tracker..

EDIT: Looks like it's an issue with medium worlds, and doesn't seem to happen on small worlds. If anyone else is having this problem give that a go and you might still be able to play.

Get a better computer.

Congrats on being the first outright troll I've seen on these forums. Good job.

Anyway,

Getting a better computer might help a bit. A bit more processing power should help. If not, just wait a few months for toady to squash some of the major bugs.

A 4790K is already a pretty beefy processor... I have one and it keeps up just fine.

I'd have to say it's not the computer specs here.  It's probably configuration, though I couldn't say more than that.  What OS are you running?  It should work with the newest but maybe putting it in Windows 7 compat might change things if you're running 10.

It's also a brand-spanking-new release so it is actually probably related to an unknown bug. One thing you might want to try is set the processing priority of DF up to realtime.

It's a confirmed issue on the bug tracker and on the devlog. So other than stupidity/trolling I don't know what all this nonsense is about needing a better computer, seeing as the specs on this one are far above average. If people genuinely believe you need a better PC than one that can max out all the newest and most intensive games then you desperately need reeducation on the matter.

For now, if it happens, you just have to generate small worlds to avoid the issue until the next update is released.

Your computer is a ton better than mine, yet I can sometimes play on medium worlds. Get a worse computer. :)
