Yep.  As attested by Ostudos E^riklist Matul, "Foldman the Infinite Whisper of Dances",  The legendary marble mechanism.  I guess in runs very quietly, and painfully, since it's covered in marble spikes.

I can be bothered to find the latest "Artifact Name" thread, so I'll share this one here:  A gemstone trumpet called Mgumrash Merir, or, The Sicknesses of Pregnancy.  I guess we know what Doren had on her mind when she created it...

See, I kind of figured them as gears too. If you're right, then now I'm trying to figure out how the spikeless mechanisms run.

i just got this on an artifact toy axe

"On the item is an image of a goblin and a dwarf in Native copper. The goblin is making a plaintive gesture. The dwarf is striking a menacing pose.
On the item is an image of a dwarf and a dwarf in Harlequin opal. The dwarf is making a plaintive gesture. The dwarf is striking a menacing pose."

and all this time we have wondered why dwarfs are so messed up in the head when they are given these as toys.

edit: i just got another artifact that tops that:
Alodosust. "Daytame". a Obsidian door
This is an Obsidian door. All craftdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encrysted with Obsidian and encircled with bands of Obsidian.

now can someone explain how you get obsidian encrusted in obsidian?

I guess that's why it's legendary.  Pretty much a Terrifying Black Door of Doom.  :)

Can you ever actually use Artifacts?

Then again, I heard that you couldnt use them before somewhere and they're just good for trading... Though I heard that a while back

Hmm.  My original carpenter snuffed it, but I can't seem to build his legendary casket.

It would be interesting.  An end to crime!  The only people worth robbing are by definition more heavily-armed than you!

The dwarves are supposed to get rid of them after a while so you can use them, but that's broken right now.

I didn't realise you could get artifacts worth less than 10k.

Hmmm...

I just got a Rope reed face veil.

It is decorated with Rope reed and encircled with bands of rope reed and Mahogany. It is made from rope reed cloth. It's adorned with hanging rings of iron (WTF?) On the item is an image of dwarves in rope reed, the dwarves are laboring. On the item is an image of a dwarf and a giant cave spider silk hood in obsidian (HOLY CRAP) The dwarf is raising the giant cave spider silk hood. There's also a goblin striking down a dwarf. In obsidian too.

Id didn't even know we had face veils...   :D

This is a groundhog bone earring.  All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality.  It is encircled with bands of groundhog bone.  $2400.

The only raw material was a groundhog bone [2].

I guess it slightly outperforms those government-issued giant cave spider silk socks.
