EOTFS: Emperor Wars - The Submission of the Hazat (Turn 49)
« on: September 18, 2016, 12:25:30 pm »

Welcome to Emperor of the Fading Suns!

Quote from: Wikipedia
Emperor of the Fading Suns is a science fiction "grand-scale" space strategy computer game made by Holistic Design in 1996. This game was based on Holistic's in-house role playing game Fading Suns. The game had a wide array of units and a complex back-story but was rushed to market and released with numerous severe flaws and several features underdeveloped. In patched form, it survives as a popular abandonware title with numerous unofficial, fan-made mods.

A game set in the Dark Ages of futuristic humanity let loose into the stars beset by ravenous monsters, threatened by techno-barbarians and held together by the thin threads of a dying Empire further strained by the machinations of the corrupt League, oppressive Holy Church and the schemes of the players as the Great Noble Houses. All of this takes place in a galaxy where the very stars themselves slowly fade away.

EOTFS is best played with the addition of one of the dedicated mods that transform the fantastic yet fatally bugged vanilla into a universe worthy of galactic war, unspeakable horrors and vicious betrayal.

The mod we have chosen is the Emperor Wars Mod which in turn is built off of the Reality Mod, aimed at giving the setting a proper fluffing up with new units, a re-designed and populated map as well as a huge variety of other changes.

The Moon on Still Waters - The Tale of Duke Hakim al-Malik
« Reply #3 on: September 20, 2016, 10:30:52 am »

Duke Hakim studied the holomap of the Known Worlds, as his mind began to wander back to the words of his father, Duke Jabir al-Malik the Golden.

Jabir would say, “My son remember this, our Empire is a moon’s reflection on a still lake.  Only in disciplined silence will it be seen and felt by all hearts.  You must help build the Empire on the foundations of the beloved, uniting all endeavors in the great Endlessness, and as such you will rule eternally.  Build it on the foundations of fear and power, and the wind will scatter the moon into a thousand ripples on the dark waves, an illusion soon forgotten by the midnight watchers on the lake’s shore.”

Forty years after Jabir’s death and Hakim’s ascension to the al-Malik throne the domain that Jabir had dreamed about was being realized through his son.

Without firing a shot the Al-Malik and Li Halan had united their domains into one through the royal marriage of Duke Hakim al-Malik and Lady Yuki Li Halan.  In return for protection from a possible incursion by Hazat and Decados forces , Duke Hakim pledged House al-Malik’s military to protect all of the Li Halan worlds, and in return Lady Yuki was made the head of the Li Halan National Church that had risen the replace the Urth Orthodoxy after the Patriarch’s fall to House Hazat.  The union resulted in the formation of the new Royal House of Malik-Halan.

But fortune continued to favor Duke Hakim, for twenty years the Hawkwood/Hazat War had raged across the Known Worlds.  The al-Malik had profited well selling arms to both factions, but it had become obvious that the scales were now tipping in favor of House Hawkwood.  Again, Hakim seized upon another opportunity, sending an envoy to the ArchDuke of the Hazat, whom he offered a choice.  The Hazat could continue upon their path and be crushed under the heel of their Hawkwood foes, or join the Malik-Halan and help unite the Empire in peace once and fall all.  Begrudgingly, the proud Hazat submitted to the Malik-Halan.

Now, Hakim is tasked with keeping together his vast and fragile domain, balancing the agendas of his pious but ambitious Li Halan wife, and his vengeance seeking and hot blooded Hazat vassals.  Who knows what the future will hold.

A Song for the Hazat - Arrival at Aragon
« Reply #4 on: September 20, 2016, 12:35:44 pm »

As the lander’s rear bay door opened, Baron Hamid al-Malik of Criticorum signaled for his soldiers to rise and take up marching formation.

The Baron had been sent to Aragon to take ownership of the Hazat capital of Castle Furias in Bermeja.

The Hazat delegation awaited them on the tarmac of the starport, and Duke Hakim sent along with the Baron the esteemed Criticorum’s 23rd Regiment to accept the Hazat entrance into House Malik-Halan.

With another signal from the Baron, a burly Sergeant yelled, “FORWARD, MARCH!!!”

The soldiers wearing their dress uniforms moved forward as a young drummer began to tap out a cadence on a drum.  Then in unison the soldiers began to belt out a familiar Criticorum tune made famous by the 23rd Regiment by Duke Hakim’s father, Jabir al-Malik the Golden.

The song from the al-Malik Criticorum barracks originated when Count Esfandiryah al-Malik was executed for high treason fifty years earlier by Jabir al-Malik the Golden.

The Count’s luck has fallen can’t you see,
He cannot pay the Duke’s stiff fee,
Tomorrow they will tie him to a tree,
Where he will be shot by Infantry Regiment 23….

The Baron smiled knowing that ArchDuke Framer would receive Duke Hakim’s message loudly and clearly.
