I'm new to using pumps but how do you pump water up?

*Ahem*...   Screw pumps will automatically transfer water from the z-level below them to the z-level that they are on, like so:

           z-2
   %%~~~~~ z-1
~~~======= z-0

There are numerous ways of transporting it up several z-levels, I suggest looking at the Wiki for more information on the subject.  It should list several possible designs, and if it doesn't a quick search through the forums should turn one up.

Also, this should probably go into the Gameplay Questions forum, rather than this one.
