Yeah.  I feel like that's another issue of what god actually entails.  Are ALMSIVI not gods?  Does the source of their power change anything?
ALMSIVI are capital-D Deities. They didn't just become gods off the Heart, they rewrote reality with it so that realities where they were always gods (hence the name changes) and ones where they became them with the Heart were fused. It's a form of mantling, though not the same one the Neravarine ends up committing.

They're also not losing power due to Dagoth Ur camping the Heart (the link is intrinsic), but because Dagoth is wide-beam broadcasting the heart's power across the entire world in order to overwrite everybody's souls with his own.

@Neonivek: By the gods in Warhammer Fantasy, are you talking about Morr, Manann, Ulric, Shallya and so on? The gods that the Empire actually worship as opposed to the Chaos gods. I think that qualifies for the thread. I don't remember them having much of an impact on anything in the daily lives of people. They have priests, knights and worshippers but I don't think they ever actually interact with the world.

From http://uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Dagoth_Ur%27s_Plans
Quote from: Dagoth Ur's plans
Phase 1: Secure Red Mountain against Tribunal intruders. Deny Tribunal access to the Heart, weakening the Temple while securing Red Mountain for the creation of Akulakhan. Keep the construction of Second Numidium a secret.

...

2E 882: The Tribunal arrive at Red Mountain for their annual ritual bathing in the heart's power. Dagoth Ur and ash vampires ambush the Tribunal. The Tribunes are driven away, and prevented from restoring themselves with Kagrenac's tools at the Heart of Lorkhan.

Does RNGesus count? Though it's usually the players rather than the characters that believe in him.

I was going to mention the Risen setting, but then I remembered that the reason their gods aren't tangible or noticeably existent is because people killed them off.

Does anyone remember what the Gothic setting was like in this aspect? I can't remember any religions mattering in it, but I can't remember if that was because the gods were ambiguous or because it just wasn't elaborated upon.

In gothic there are 3 gods but they are barred from meddling too much by their older brother or so.
In effect their scheming is rather subtle but stil impactful so i don't think that would count.

If my memory's not mistaken, there are people who get their powers from them. I'm thinking of that wizard in the beginning of Gothic II who worships Beliar and has a shrine to him, for example.

Mages in Gothic also serve as priests and get their powers from the god they worship. The gods prefer manipulating mortals rather than direct interventions. IIRC Xardas mentions that he directly spoke to Beliar, and the reason the Hero was sent to the Colony was because Innos told the king to do so.
Also, at least in 2, shrines can have various effects when you pray there.

Since tabletop RPGs were mentioned, I'm going to bring up GURPS - specifically, the Banestorm setting. It feels kind of like cheating to mention real-life religions but meh. Basically all religions are present as the continent is made up of people ripped from Earth at various points in time.

Certain religions recognize mages in their ranks. Mages of your own religion are right and divine and good while mages of other religions are charlatans at best or damned false prophets at worst, despite both having the potential to cast the same spells. The particularly devout of any given religion also has the True Faith advantage - the book example is using your faith to prevent malign supernatural creatures from approaching you. This works the same for every religion - you could pray to the flying spaghetti monster for assistance as long as you actually believe.

Some might take this as "proof" that a given religion is right in-universe, but which one is correct? In a theoretical skirmish between Hindu and Christian groups where both sides are magically enhancing their own forces while throwing fireballs at the other and calling upon their faith to protect them (which it does), which one is real and which is the fake? What about when a third side joins the brawl and does the same while not following any religion?
