Best version of Dwarf Fortress for Adventure Mode?
« on: October 09, 2015, 05:59:28 am »

Title. I downloaded 40.24 and tried it but between the non hostile bandits and kobolds and the extremely off putting rumors/quest system I would rather go to an older version. Problem being I've been out of the Fortress loop for a bit and was wondering what would be the best version to use. Thanks.

No, yep. That's what I meant too. I want to come out of the theater completely fucked up for weeks.

0.34.11. You'd be missing out on the new sites and combat/movement mechanics, but at least questing is satisfactory.

Reading his name would trigger it. Thinking of him would trigger it. No other circumstances would trigger it- it was strictly related to the concept of Bill Clinton entering the conscious mind.

A wizard has turned you into a wagon. This was inevitable (Y/y)?

Yeah, the new sites are awesome! I personally prefer 40.24 becouse of the large amount of stuff and fun (asking someone how he feels during a battle).

New sites + climbing + jumping + being able to add more fun to your worlds > caring about bandits and kobolds.

I have tons of fun, and !!Fun!! and everything in between in 40.24 and rarely visit bandits and ignore kobolds entirely.

Don't forget that sometimes bandit camps have starting necromancers in them. Ever seen what 600 zombies in a bandit camp looks like?

Yeah, who cares about peacefull bandits when you can murder peasants with much higher satisfaction and kobolds are just little squishy maggots.

Relevant: this is a bandit camp... those are not the bandits I expected.

Question: why the hell are zombies so OP in the game?
They're probably the hardest enemies to beat and require very specific weaponry to deal with. They're impossible to defeat with anything but a slashing weapon or something.
Is there any specific strategy for, say, a lasher to kill them?

Not with a lasher, gotta sever hands+head or pulp head+occasionally hands as well.

Super strong hammer lord if there is a necro around, axe lord if you're not worrying about them reanimating, when in doubt run.
