Laptop Finally Busted. [Need Help Creating Installation Media]
« on: September 06, 2015, 07:40:20 am »

My laptop finally died on me, one of the files required for it to boot up is either missing or corrupted (Winload.efi). I'm looking for instructions on how to create installation media, because I can't figure out how to create it on my own. I have a 16GB flash drive with me, so any help would be appreciated. It's using Windows 8.

I can't help you directly, sorry, but I think you'd have better chances on the Life Advice portion subforum.

I'm going to do the smart thing here and disengage. This isn't a hill I paticularly care to die on.

Are you looking to repair Windows 8, or just burn it down and start over with a new OS? I'm not sure how to do the former, but I do know how to make something you can boot to do the latter.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.
