Can unicorn thread be spun into cloth?
« on: September 05, 2015, 10:54:05 pm »

I've recently had a unicorn cull and have been spinning a lot of hair into yarn at the workshop, but I go to have it woven into fabric and it says there isnt anything to weave. Same with the mule hair, horse hair etc. Is it only certain species that can be woven?

I think hair can not be used to produce cloth. Those threads only good for surgery.

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?

Only sheep alpaca, llama and troll yarn can be converted into cloth.

As Uggh said, only the kinds listed in the game as thread can be used for cloth, and troll fur is either very hard or impossible to come by for dorfs, since shearing trolls is considered slavery if they're alive, and butchery if they're dead. You can get threads from other kinds of hair, but that thread is only good for surgery (and the hospital does not attempt to select thread unsuitable for other purposes over cloth worthy thread. In fact, I think the hospital will go for adamantine thread first, if given a chance).
