Well yes, it would be a little difficult for a normal corpse to kill the spider.

1. Physics shenanigans, in the form of gravity. Elk birds are large, so getting hit by a falling one is probably harmful.

They are scary, but anything undead is currently absolutely terrifying. They can be a greater challenge than forgotten beasts.
