Is this game worth purchasing?

Honestly?  Far too many bugs.  The interface is clunky, and it isn't intuitive enough.  I wouldn't recommend buying.

But besides the bugs and the interface, is this game fun?

I'm not sure, honestly.  It doesn't have a great deal of depth to it, and the AI is neither smart enough nor aggressive enough to really challenge a player (maybe multiplayer would be different).  I've played a fair bit of it beyond this LP, and mostly I've just been slogging through dull city management and repetitive battles just to see what's left in the spellbook.  It suffers from the problems that late-game Civ sometimes has when your empire gets too big, but without any convenient automation or 'governor' settings.  You are forced to micromanage everything, and that gets terribly dull.

Ah, too bad then.  Even Master of Magic had a "Viceroy" that would manage city development.

Well that and it wasn't that hard to maxed out cities and then just tell them all to build their best unit over and over again.

Strategy, ladies and gentlemen!

Well in all fairness... in Master of Magic anything less than the top 1-3 units of any race was just chaff.

I do like what the Dwiggs Mod did for Age of Wonders : Shadow Magic. Everything has a purpose! :)
