What Should I Say If ...
« on: August 18, 2015, 06:16:58 am »

Just wondering ... What should I say if a girl tells me she likes me? It has happened to me before and it was very awkward and the relationship crashed a few weeks later. Not that I liked her anyway ... I suppose it's my fault because I didn't reject her just because I didn't want to hurt her feelings.

Sometimes you need to be up front. If you don't like them that way, make it clear. Unrequited affection is a horrible thing for people to bear and even worse if uncertainty is a factor. If you think there may be a chance you may develop affection for them, make it clear you don't currently feel that way. They may or may not keep at it, if it's truely love, they will likely keep at it. And who knows, it may end up working.

Give things a chance if you have the time of day for her. Don't throw away a potential friendship because things went poorly with someone else in the past. Affection is rare enough, they've gotten over their awkwardness to give you an opportunity, ask to get to know her a little better. If she's currently sane, she'll know she has to win you over as a friend, and that's actually what dating is for - too many people consider friendship somehow separate from romance, when in reality the whole dance of pretending to be someone you aren't to 'woo' someone is setting you up for distrust and failure later.

Yes. Friendship is how good relationships tend to form. Never befriend someone with the intent of dating though.

Tell her:
'Thy affection melts my cold, cold heart, oh sweet friend! How much brighter the sun shines with your unfaltering adulation keeping my soul erect.
And I do mean my soul, for there can be no joyous, fervently thrashing meeting of our maddened loins. Thine form, however pleasant to the eye and generally rather quite stunning in most respects, does not maketh my juices flow. Oh, I blame the caprice of nature, the randomness of environmental factors skewing my upbringing so. I must be forever apart from your fantabulous embraces as I am compelled to seek the companionship of other girls - neither prettier nor more charming than you, but just different in absolutely arbitrary ways.
What terrible fate, my kindred soul, to not be able to consummate this irritatingly one-sided attraction.
But pray, tell. Must this be the end of our relationship? Must we dwell on the impossible? Is awkwardness in each other's presence the only destination on the horizon? Can we ever stop thinking of the steamy, sweaty encounters that can never be? Is this the end?
I do still love you, in the boringly platonic, non-horizontally-inclined, carnally-challenged fashion. I know, it's a tall order to ask of you to stop getting all trembling in the leg at the glorious sight of my Apollonian physique, to stop your heaving breasts from bursting with passion, to cease the auto-lubrication reflex in-between your thighs.
But you, no, we must persevere, so that in ten, fifteen years time, when we're both older and on the brink of losing our youthful verve, when our presently elevated expectations will have plummeted something fierce, we might laugh at all of this, and perhaps have a short, guilty, dirty affair.
For now, my friend, Adieu. I shall meet you again when the fate ordains.
Probably tomorrow at school.'

Actually, that'd be a pretty good way of rejecting me without making it awkward.

I'd be pleased if someone wrote a poem to put me down gently. Well, not pleased exactly, but happier then if they had just said 'No, you creep'.

It's most certainly better than "no sorry, I am not drunk enough to feel about you that way"

The thing is, if they understand it you'd have many questions on how they parsed it but they'd have left.

If they don't give two shits and don't listen, they'd keep pestering you because they didn't understand it.

Tattoo it on your chest, so that you may tear your shirt off and let her read it while she stares in awe at your perfectly shaped pecs and abs - forever beyond her grasp.
