Dwarves not stockpiling correctly?
« on: July 27, 2015, 12:26:23 pm »

I have a stone stockpile for my masons, and since most of my layers are made of rock salt, I decided that it would be a rock salt-only stockpile. When I changed the settings for the stockpile to only allow rock salt, my dwarves stockpiled nothing; it was like I had not designated a stockpile. I allowed all types of stone and they stockpiled the rock salt, but also all of my ores that are lying around. My masons only use the rock salt so any space that gets freed up gets taken by more ores. I made a stockpile that only allows ores and then disallowed ores in the original stone stockpile but nothing has changed and I'm thoroughly confused.

Any thoughts or questions? This is stifling productivity in my fortress, so I'm eager to fix it.

An obsidian-only stockpile worked fine for me.

If you post a save someone will take a look at it.

Hi, thanks for replying. What is the best site to use for uploading saves? I haven't uploaded any saves before, least not that I remember.

is there any chance that a slip-of-the-finger caused it to accidentally be set to "accept from links only"? (Not that I've ever done that. Never. Not at all.)

Is this biome reanimating? I really don't want to know what happens when "absurd numbers of megabeasts" is combined with "reanimating biomes".

The official site to upload saves that might expose a bug in the game is dffd:

Really, DF and Metal are practically the same. Drunkenness, Death, Depression, Depravity, Despondence, Demons, Dementia, Darkness. And thats just the D's!

Okay, I think I've done everything correctly, let me know if I've messed up somewhere along the way with this upload, or in my save :D

Your dwarves aren't filling the ore/bar stockpile because you disabled both "Allow Plant/Animal" and "Allow Non-Plant/Animal" under "Additional Options". When you exclude both organic and non-organic goods there isn't anything that can be stored in your stockpile. Re-enabling "Allow Non-Plant/Animal" caused your dwarves to jump to work hauling ore to the stockpile. I then disabled everything except rock salt (and "Additional Options") and your dwarves hauled in the few remaining rock salt boulders.

Thanks! I don't remember doing that but I tend to play DF for hours so no doubt I just didn't understand what those even meant and forgot that I changed them.

Yeah, best bet is to not touch those settings. There doesn't seem to be many circumstances where they would be useful, and every time I have messed with them there seemed to be unintended consequences.

The more appropriate question becomes, are they awesome and dwarven enough.
