(Adventure Mode) Using a 2 Handed Sword.. With 2 Hands?

Okay so, does using a 2 handed sword with 2 hands increase the effectiveness of the sword? How do I even use the 2 handed sword with both hands? I keep picking it up with my left hand!
Edit: When playing the game before, I swear I've seen that it says I've held it with both hands...

There is no command for multigrasping an object. But try sheathing the sword when you're holding only the sword (q) and then unsheathing it (q again). If you're the right size it should multigrasp. You might be too large and therefore you'd be capable of using it with one hand and that would be the default (with no way to force yourself to multigrasp it).
