I noticed that one of my Dwarves somehow got himself trapped in an empty channel that will later be a canal.  I dug some stairs down to him, but he didn't move.  That's when I noticed that he was the melancholy Dwarf who failed to make a metal craft.  There were no stairs down, and no digging had gone on in the area, so the only way down was to have jumped.

That's kinda sad when a dwarf fails to kill himself.

I've watched one throw them self into a DRY murky pool. It's still muddy though so he sat in the mud until he starved to death.

This Venice project is cursed.  My second Sherrif threw himself off the second story down into the West excavation after being injured.

Edit: successfully this time, I should add.

I had a melancholy dwarf throw himself repeatedly off a bridge into the dried up moat around my first fortress.  He'd go running straight for the edge, fall off, sit there stunned for a moment, run for the ramp, and then run straight off the edge again.
