WHERE ARE THE DINOSAURS!?
They're easily modded in.  One effort that takes it quite seriously is here.

Extinct. :P

More seriously, Toady has mentioned that dinosaurs & co may have a chance to exist as savage-biome creature, though the question would be how they would be named. Also, dinosaurs exist as base creatures for the various big random monsters, like titans.

I'm pretty sure something that big couldn't survive in the world of Dwa- wait, nevermind. We've got bigger.

pfftt.. Everyone knows dinosaurs went extinct from the sudden spike in demand for +Tyrannosaurus Rex meat roasts+ in year -4.

But dinosaurs do exist in DF, they just take the form of dimetrodons as forgotten beasts and titans.

That's a little like saying that lungfish are lizards.  They simply share ancestry.

There's also Beak Dogs, which are a form of more basal theropod which goblins keep (or kept, in previous versions – I haven't seen many lately) as domestic critters.
