Is cave spider silk really good, or am I really stupid?

Does that mean it's 741% more effective than iron? Does it mean it's 741% weaker? I looked around for more information on this but I can't seem to find any. It seems to be doing better than my ice wolf leather robe which is fairly strange. I may simply be getting lucky, but considering the strength of real life spider webs I guess it's not impossible.

The leather robe is the same thickness as the silk robe which makes it weaker.
I don't know how it is related to iron, but since a breastplate and a robe are not the same thickness I guess that's why iron is better protection.

An iron robe would probably be weaker. has anyone done !!SCIENCE!! about it yet?

Well my adamantine cloaks I gave to my weapon masters at one point couldn't stop iron battle axes.

There's something screwy with your silk raws; the default ones are:
[IMPACT_YIELD:10000]
[IMPACT_FRACTURE:10000]
Whereas iron has:
[IMPACT_YIELD:542500]
[IMPACT_FRACTURE:1085000]
Which is over five times the yield and over a hundred times the fracture.

That's weird. I didn't change them at all. Thank you though

Those are the IMPACT values. The values on the screenshot are SHEAR_YIELD and SHEAR_FRACTURE and definitly are the normals ones. And clothing made of silk won't block anything because it has the STRUCTURAL_ELASTICITY_WOVEN_THREAD tag, which reduce greatly its strenght(this is why adamantine clothes are useless).

Silk armor would hypothetically be very good.  Its stats make it nearly impossible to pierce with an arrow IF it were rigid.  I believe the Mongols wore silk capes/turbans loosely that would tangle bullets within them basically like the more modern schurzen.

There's some talk here that would help illuminate that.  Apparently, enough layers of silk with enough stitching to make it rigid-ish means silk can basically stop a bullet.
