Any Cosplay Ideas???
« on: June 19, 2015, 01:00:55 am »

Ayyyyyy Bay12!

Anyways... I'm looking for some cosplay ideas! Preferably those based around a lot of armor or otherwise bulky suits. I've kinda been mulling this project over for a while, and when I rewatched Adam Savage's awesome Nostromo suit videos, i've been wanting to build a space suit or suit of armor for myself. The project itself will be pretty long term, but right now i'm just looking for ideas. Didn't think of much, but i'm kinda thinking about doing a Rebel Alliance soldier or some kinda spacesuit, but any suggestion that includes gratuitous amounts of awesome is welcome.

If you want specific character suggestion  it would help to know your body type, hair color, willingness to endure masks/facepaint/sewing/accessorizing/etc.

Spartan suit comes to mind. Mass effect armor is fairly popular too. 405th is the standard resource site. They have printable pepakura templates available for download for a number of standard suits. Material choices are usually fiberglass with bondo, or foam. Foam is cheaper and faster, but it's soft. Fiberglass suits take a notoriously long time to build. Months to a year, typically. The usual process there is to print out a template on thick cardstock, fold it to shape then apply many, many layers fiberglass. Foam, you typically mail order foam sheets, cut it with an exacto knife and heat it to give it shape, then hot glue the pieces together and paint over the top.

Dying of laughter?
Dying of pure unbridled hatred, actually.

Facepaint no, only because I will sweat it off. I have a little sewing experience, so yes. Masks/accessories? Yes! Hopefully whatever I make will be full-body with a helmet.

Body type: somewhat thin. Under clothing no one really notices that I have somewhat of a belly.

Hair color: brown.

I was thinking of working with that Wonderflex material mostly, with moldable plastic like instamorph for some more intricate parts. Halo and Mass Effect are certainly good suggestions, but I think i'm looking for something more... industrial? Utility, maybe? Which is why the "spacesuit" idea has been so appealing to me. The only thing stopping me from just outright making said spacesuit is that i'm really worried about making the helmet.

I am, but i'm not sure I have the resources for that. At least for my first cosplay project. Also I have almost no storage space.

You can use my avatar for reference. It's pretty bulky.
