Iceland? It's all Igneous extrusive layers. Unless you are luck enough to find Haematite you are going to be reliant on Goblins for Iron.

The good side is that Magma will be relatively shallow, and you may even have Obsidian as a layer stone. But there are no trees, so remember to buy some logs for beds at embark, and you will have to rely on traders for Logs to turn into carbon fuel, as there's no chance of coal in that environment.

EDIT: Oh, and there's almost certainly no Aquifer and the stream will freeze solid for 5 months of the year.

It's a dwarf.  Their natural habitat is "trapped on the wrong side of a wall".

Flinging children halfway across the map to land in magma is good, wholesome fun, but extramarital reproduction?  Why, that's just unseemly!

As far as Iceland goes there is little to no animals that can pose a threat and there is a small patch of forest hidden deep inside. It will probably end being an asylum where there is not much to do...

P.S. There are a lot of whales around tho, and some end up dead on the beaches...

I remember when someone made a perfectworld map of Europe and North America.  You could embark in the Grand Canyon (which was ridiculously steep)...

Personally, I like [DF] because after climbing the damned learning cliff, I'm too elitist to consider not liking it.
