Lye problem

In my stocks menu I have over a 100 lye in my stockpile. However my dwarves don't want to make any soap for some reason and the selection is reded out.

Did you make sure to have any kind of fat ? You need either tallow or oil to make soap, in addition to lye.

There is a bug with lye in that if you have barrels in the stockpile the lye is stored in, BOTH the buckets and the lye are stored in the barrels and then become inaccessible.
To get at the lye you'll have to forbid barrels in the stockpile (or create a new lye only stockpile with barrels forbidden and remove lye from the general food stockpile). Accessing each barrel and dumping the buckets will get those out with the lye still inside them (the buckets will have to be unforbidden afterwards to get hauled to the stockpile). It might be sufficient to just forbid barrels, but I'd rather go the dumping route.

Fixing the stockpile to only have lye with no barrels allowed seems to have fixed it. Thank you for the help
