So, I'm looking forward trying to upgrade my computer at some point in the not far future, and given what I want I'm facing some issues: Mostly that I want a decent computer capable of running modern games (the non super demanding ones anyway) minimally well but also with a good deal of single threaded performance for DF and other games likes that. And to compound the situation, I'm on a budget, so I can hardly slap a 300 USD dollar CPU (well, I could get the CPU but then I couldn't buy the motherboard for it :P ) that would be the top-ish of the line for both and be done with it.

It honestly make me wish that there was some mixed performance multi-core CPUs on the market to be fair, but since that wouldn't be feasible without either shelling even more for a multi-cpu MB or McGuverying something fierce (and far beyond my current technical skills) I'm looking for advice for what to pick.

For now, I'm looking at these options for processors:
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+FX-6300+Six-Core&id=1781
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Athlon+X4+860K+Quad+Core&id=2362
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Pentium+G3258+%40+3.20GHz&id=2267

In particular, I'm so far favoring the Athlon, although I can't say anything definite yet. And, of course, in the ridiculous off-chance that the price fall down enough or my budget rises sufficiently, I'd rather go with this baby, but that's just a dream for quite a while yet. :P

"Yes, but that rather hinges on doing certain things and not doing others." - Paraphrased from Discworld.
