Tech Issue: Dark graphics
« on: April 19, 2015, 08:13:17 pm »

My game window is really dark. It's hard to see my dwarves and their constructions. Is there a way to adjust this?

What version are you using?

Do you have rendermax activated in the gui?  If so things are dark and require light structures to see things well.  Has a pretty cool effect.  If rendermax is on and you want the game to have its normal brightness disable it in the gui or type in "rendermax disable" in the control window while in game.

I am using  2.6.0.0

Thank you, that fixed it!

Just wondering, but why do people want their game really dark? I understand needing light could be cool and all, but why above ground, and (presumably) during the day?

It should cycle day and night, but rendermax is pretty confused if you use extended graphics with it.

Maybe it is cycling through day and night, but it's just that time is set to move at 1/8 normal speed, meaning really long nights and days. Or something, I haven't used rendermax in a while so I'm not sure how nicely it plays with time dilation.

While this is on top lemme just ask a follow-up question:

So how many of you actually use Rendermax? Does it add much to your immersion, or it is just a bother to place the sconces everywhere? I tried it a few times on some warlock fortresses but eventually it just made everything a little harder to see. I can see the appeal, though, especially with a Hermit fortress.

I used it all the time before it had a bug when used along twbt. It's bad for fps but really encourages you to build large space with decorations in it.

On top of that it gives a real meaning to windows and glass door because they let the light through and even colorize it.

On warlock you can build soul lanterns and pentagrams for free to illuminate the place.

I very much like the effect, but for me it kills FPS and crashes when I zoom.

I noticed that too, when I would zoom in/out using the brackets or the mouse wheel the game would crash pretty consistently. One of the reasons I play without it, unfortunately.
