I axe murdered someone and she came back to life
« on: April 05, 2015, 01:04:19 pm »

I decided to have some fun being a necromancer, so I modded in an interaction that lets any human turn themselves into one instantly (but it was SELF_ONLY and had USAGE_HINT:ATTACK so that NPCs wouldn't use it). I then ran around chopping off people's limbs with an axe and then reanimating them. A spearman managed to injure me, so after I killed and reanimated her I waited for an hour to heal, to discover this:

I'd report this as a bug, but I can't reproduce it, and I was using DFHack anyway. Here's the save for anyone interested.

There is a long standing bug i observed (and reported) with goblins and trolls that have creatures killed respawning, but i have read people observing other creatures respawning as well despite killed.
So it's very likely this one is related to the respawn bug if the killed spearman you reanimated is suddenly there again

Check the sex! I thought an elf I killed was the one I was talking to (Meyi Meyithono for both) and killed Meyi with the other Meyi corpse.

Both female. Both spearmen, too. I think I'll retire and check if legends has two people named Isa Channeledperfect.

Well, they're different histfigures, but they seem to be completely identical. Maybe it's an odd coincidence, or maybe the histfigure was duplicated somehow during the resurrection.

Nice, I apparently hit the first Meyi Lilactin so hard he came back to life as a female:

(Also, I love the board software here for little things like being able to specify width, use "img width=650" instead of "img" and you get the smaller images you can click to enlarge like those two, I don't mind myself but some posters read on smaller screens or have the pages zoomed differently and it can break tables or just be hard to see at larger img sizes, I find 650 to be a good middle ground, you can do height as well but if you do both it can screw with the aspect ratio)

Yeah, it's a little duplication bug.
And it also happens with random townspeople too (not all of them), if you wait/sleep in their vicinity - only difference there: They don't duplicate themselves but their inventory.
It seems that a second person is spawned within them so they suddenly wear the double amount of their clothes, have two pouches and two weapons.
Interesting fact: Not all of these items are exactly the same.

Maybe this doesn't belong solely to people.
I've encountered some locations (mostly lairs and mountain halls) who change too, if you wait/sleep or fall back to an older save.
This can be frustrating if you're inside a mountain hall and suddenly there is no stair back to the dwarven highways.
Maybe it's the same kind of bug, maybe not.

I've seen this in older versions too - I was once saved by a crossbowman because he had a second quiver of bolts to shoot at the minotaur that was strangling me.

Huh. I was wondering why I was finding two pouches on people I murdered in their sleep.
More coins for me, though!

Have you ever seen your companion duplicated? Usually I ignore them and one or both gets lost in fast travel. I should try kicking one out and attacking him for being a doppleganger, see whether the other one attacks him or me.

I think this is a case of the game remembering the unit but not updating if the unit has either move or gone.
or a case of the game having a limited unit naming pool and just re using  the same unit to fill out sites.
I mean sites tend to have a inhabitants section which fills a site with a race then modify them if they have an interaction class type.
