TV/Flim awards ceremonies are rigged in favor of the corporate interests.
For example in Australia, me and my girlfriend once noticed that the Australian TV awards system had a plethora of weird sub-genres which favored the privately run networks, such as three separate categories that could be considered just types reality shows, which were "Best Reality show", "Best lifestyle show" and "best factual show". "Factual" here doesn't mean documentaries, but those "cops" or "border patrol" or "Real ER head injuries" type shows.
Now, the best comedy shows were all running on ABC and SBS at this time (which are non-profit and tend not to run insipid reality shows, but to foster shows with actual writing) but there was no "comedy" award, there was a "light entertainment" category which included ... "comedy, talent, variety, music, talk, and traditional game shows". So the brilliantly written comedies on the public channels were directly competing with Who Wants To Be a Millionaire, Dancing With The Stars and Australian Idol for public viewer votes on best show, while crap from the commercial channels was split up into multiple types of reality programs.
They also can't seem to decide whether e.g. Dancing with the stars is a "light entertainment" or "reality" show since it's been nominated in both categories. Since the three big commercial channels run the awards thing between them, I suspect there's some bargaining involved, and trying to cut the other two channels out of awards by randomly placing shows in whichever category suits them from year to year.
It's basically like Gerrymandering, but for awards.
