Forgotten beast vs Giant Cave Spider
« on: March 07, 2015, 09:56:41 pm »

So... I recently closed off the lower section of my fortress due to a forgotten beast with poisonous blood so I can have some time to train up a marksdwarf squad to deal with it.  It's made quick work of anything that spawns in my cave anywhere from a giant olm to a cave crocodile (which actually managed to do some damage).  Recently however a giant cave spider spawned, I  was pretty excited, was hoping that I'd see some incredible duel between 2 fairly terrifying creatures.  Alas all I got was:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

In game the fight was so quick it basically looked like the spider flung some web and was thrown by the wayside and instantly killed.

Anyways what interested me was the fact that the spider actually poisoned the forgotten beast.  Will the poison show any visible effects or is the titan too big to even feel the effects of it?

I need some way to put armor on babies so I can start training them early.

Considering the size of FB's, doubtful.  Probs just some nausea.

Yeah, giant cave spiders seem a bit underwhelming against FB's. Cave dragons however...

And no, GCS venom is woefully ineffective against large beasts. If only giant cave spiders didn't have SIZE_DILUTES on their venom.

It seems webbers are less impressive now. I once saw a (wounded) webber FB that had killed two others get killed by a jabberer. My military has also taken on two webbers (a titan and an FB) and won both times in only a handful of steps.

To be fair, a Jabberer is one of the deadlier denizens of the underground. Their beak shears through bone.

Yeah, several dwarves of mine have been killed by jabberers. On a related note, said jabberer was a male when I only had females. He stepped into a cage trap and went on to become the father of every jabberer in my fortress.
