I'm a Cheaty Dwarf trying to learn DFHACk's createitem

...and I can't figure out how to spawn an iron bar. I've tried

createitem METAL:IRON 1 but it hasn't done me any good.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Ask in the modding section, they will know.

DFHack doesn't recognize NO_SUBTYPE as an item subtype - you need to use NONE.

Getting warmer. DF itself will recognize METAL as an alias for INORGANIC, but DFHack does not.

There's also the issue that you need to specify the item and the material separately - "createitem BAR:NONE INORGANIC:IRON" is what you want.

Yeah, he figured that out over on the modding subsection.  It's been so long since I've used DFHack I forgot how to do stuff like that.

That's what the createitem documentation is for (there's also a page on the wiki, but it's not very well publicized). No matter what you pass as the first argument to createitem, it will fail if the second argument is not present (or is a number).
