Elves are among us. (i.e. in Real Life™)
« on: July 12, 2015, 07:12:10 pm »

(Had a quick look to see if anyone had mentioned this before, but apologies if it's a repeated showing ...)

http://fullgrown.co.uk/

[edit: as mentioned below, I had forgotten to actually say that it's a company that's "growing furniture" from living wood...]

It's a godawful web front-page (nice looking, nothing of the Yvette's Bridal Formal to it, but ~37 screenfulls of information and images that could best be hidden behind sub-pages, so that slow connections like mine don't unduly suffer), but I saw it and thought of you lot, so started writing this in the DF subforums, before deciding it was better in the non-DF side of things and started again with a little copypasta from the first aborted thread.

(I'm not affiliated with them.  This is not intended to be an advertisement.  Not that I'm sure that comparing a company with elves in this forum is going to be a boost to reputation, anyway... ;) )

Put your magma away, this is actually fairly neat. Hilariously wasteful, particularly time wise, but neat.

That said, since the OP couldn't seem to be arsed to actually say what the zog this stuff is, it's a group of folks that are growing trees into furniture, as opposed to the significantly more time efficient methods we normally use. Kinda' like industrial level bonsai, except used to make furniture. Basically making for fairly unstandardized and organic looking lamps and chairs, so far, with more stuff in the works.

Particularly notable, though, is the apparent lack of prices on the website itself :V

Partially due to them apparently not going into full sell mode until 2017, but probably because they'll be hideously expensive, heh.

Mea culpa.  That fact disappeared in editing.

Where I first heard about it1 I think the suggested price (for a chair) was £3000, but don't hold me to that.

1 "Countryfile", weekly BBC TV magazine programme about rural matters... Those with easy working access to the iPlayer, and for whom bbc.co.uk doesn't complain about you having a non-UK IP or whatever, can watch it for yourself; and those who can't might still be able to find a way, but you're on your own with that...  It was somewhere in the second half hour, IIRC, if you're not keen on watching the whole thing through.
