I was goofing around with DFhack, and when I hit in the command "hsf-pit," which makes a pit directly to the caves and below, I found fortifications and smoothed walls mixed in with the normal unhewn stuff. Is this a part of the game or just DFhack being trolly?

Maybe you hit an underground road? I'm assuming you're not playing a reclaim.

Sounds like you built your fortress over an underground road. type "reveal" into DFHack and se what you see.
