Hauling Skill and Profession
« on: February 12, 2015, 10:31:07 am »

Wouldn't it make sense for a dwarf that hauls things all the time to become better at hauling?  Having a team of professional Legendary +5 Haulers that can move heavy things faster than usual sounds useful.  Hauling might also train a more general strength and movement speed and lead to late-life back injuries.

This might help with the current dev plan to switch from jobs selecting dwarfs to dwarfs selecting jobs.

I don't know if hauler is really a profession.
But if would be nice if it trains strength better.

What would work well would be having jobs in general turn squad-based, especially after workshop-rooms come in. At the very least being able to setup work parties to go in bucket-brigade style teams would be a nice way to speed up hauling and encourage larger numbers of haulers to boot. That way you could also bring in things like foremen and apprentices, with haulers in a particular work party being gathered up by the foreman and organised with their required tools (if any) to move things around.

It's a profession in the real world.  We have people like truck drivers, fork-lift operators and delivery boys.
