Year 103, 1st of Hematite
Goblins attack again!Dobar, Militia Commander: "Damn it! I am tired of hiding away!"
Tosid, Captain of the Guard: "If you send your squads out there, they will be slaughtered!"
Dobar: "Well... if your crossbows target their leaders, the goblins will scatter and they will be no match for my well-trained soldiers."
Momuz, Mayor: "No one is going out there. We will wait them out as we did before. We can sustain for several months if we must. Please, Dobar, we will re-double our efforts to complete the archery towers as soon as they leave. Your priority now is to train your soldiers and work with the smiths to fully equip your soldiers."
~A meeting in the Mayor's office, Year 103, 20th of Hematite~Momuz Avuzaral, Mayor: "I have looked over your proposal for this defense project. It is certainly intriguing. Tell me more."
Nish Risentoskom, Engraver & Siege Engineer: "Of course. Before I came here I was educated in the ways of siegecraft and fortress defense. I agree that the archery towers will help but I have a defense design that can rout even large armies. You see, we need to draw the enemies into a trap. This winding platform design forces the enemies into the line of fire of our ballistas.
First, the miners need to carve out the path. At the same, I will need time away from my engraving and stone smoothing duties while I perfect my building techniques for ballistas and their ammunition. Once the ballistas are built, we will need to recruit siege operators to launch the arrows. This is a long-term project, but even while underway it can be of some value. If we place weapon traps at key points in the path, they should cripple our foes or force them to drop into the pit."
Momuz: "Hmmm... Interesting. This could work."
