How do I get Macros to work in the recent version?
« on: February 07, 2015, 07:37:58 pm »

Just as a quick general overview of what macros are:
They are special saved parts of multiple input that you repeatedly use without having to repeat the commands yourself.

I looked at the wiki for the .40.24 version and it said:
Quote
Creating macros

The controls for creating macros within DF are as follows:

Ctrl+r = record (and finish recording)
    Ctrl+s = save
    Ctrl+l = load
Ctrl+u+number = set to repeat [number] of times
    Ctrl+p = play

This is what it says on the wiki, but everytime I tried to record a macro. Nothing happens, not a prompt, or a message, or anything. I tried from everymenu and not in a menu too. And it doesn't seem to work.

I looked more on the wiki and it said:
Quote
There is a directory data/init/macros for them. The macros are saved in .mak format.
I went to the DF raws and checked EVERY folder, and not a single one named "macros"

Is macros in .44.24 release and how do get there/use them?

EDIT: sorry it's for .44.24

Try checking your own in-game key bindings. Maybe they're different for one reason or another.

Do you mean 0.40.24?

Also, you're using the SDL version of DF, correct (not the legacy version)?

The legacy version does not support macros (among other things).

The SDL version supports macros. The legacy version does not. If you use the SDL version, macros should work.
For a more technical explanation, the SDL version uses the SDL library to handle input and graphics, which is cross-platform (only SDL builds of DF are available for OS X and Linux). The legacy version uses an older, less-portable library, has fewer features (for example, you can't resize the window in-game), and is typically much slower graphics-wise than the SDL version. Toady only distributes the legacy version in case the SDL version doesn't work on some machines, which is why it's listed below the SDL version on the download page.
(Also note that utilities such as DFHack and Dwarf Therapist won't work with the legacy version.)

that could explain why I couldn't resize the window, Thanks!
