New to Reclaim

Ok so im kind of new to reclaiming forts and i was wondering exactly how you do it like do you have to go to designations and designate it for reclaimor what?

At site selection you can press a key to bring up the list of retired/abandoned forts for reclaim, I think it's R.

I know that much but my dwarfs wont pick up any loot of the floor

because the Item is most probably forbidden, marked as such:

-barrel-  <-- Free

{-barrel-} <-- forbidden.

Can be toggled on and off by hovering on the iten amd pressing f.

i did that with some Weapons but it would not show up in the military equip screen

You probably need a stockpile for Weapon before equip them

Also note [d]--[c] Area reclaim. Much easier than reclaiming items one by one.

This. I like to start a reclaim by making a multilevel designation the entire length and width of the map.
Also note that all furniture and constructions (workshops, bridges, roads) will need to have every material used in their construction unforbidden before you can do anything to them. For example if you have bridge made from 3 logs, all 3 logs must unforbidden before that bridge can be changed in any way.
This is why start by unforbidding the whole map.
