Generally speaking you need a weapon and armor... A second weapon is never a bad idea.

You need clothes
-Explorer's outfit is a good choice
-Backpack is also a good idea

You need rations
-At least a weeks worth, though most DMs don't even keep track of rations and due to the nature of the game I doubt we will ever need any

You need survival gear which includes
-Rope (Honestly it is an adventurer's must!)
-A source of light being either torches, candles, lamps, or if you are loaded a Everburning torch
-A Knife
-Whetskin

Some personal effects
-A book is a great little addition
-a cheap holy symbol even if your not a priest
-Beer, Wine, Absinth
-Dried Fruit or Beef Jerky
-A bit of spice for your food
-A Piece of jewelry or silk

Other interesting items
-Chalk
-Signal Whistle
-Vials
-Paper with Ink

There is definitely more I could have added to the list, but they are sort of out of your price range.
