Trading Prices?
« on: January 27, 2015, 11:31:46 am »

I have just recently got back into DF with version 0.40.24 not having played since July or August.  When I go to trade I send my broker to trade but I see no prices, and if I view a good I see no worth for it.  I used to get back in past versions.

Did they change something?  Or am I just missing something obvious?  I do have a full screen for trading with is nice but I can only find the weight of goods and no value :/

I started in a desert this time centered on the idea that I would trade for wood and things but not having prices makes that even more of a challenge.

Thanks for any help. :)

The trading Dwarf needs to have the Appraiser skill in order to see and judge prices correctly.
Skills in observation and co cant hurt either to make him better.

I do believe if the dwarf you chose as broker has no relevant skills (like appraiser), the first few times you trade, you get no worth listed with your items. I usually give my expedition leader some skill in appraisal to avoid this.

The first time a dwarf attempts to trade at the depot, they will gain enough experience to reach level 1 or 2, and they will be able to evaluate prices, if that dwarf is your broker. If not, make them your broker. Going into the trade screen is enough, so go in, exit, then go back to the trade screen and prices should be there.

A dwarf doesn't need to be the broker to get appraisal skill, but the "anybody can trade" has no priorities on who would be best to trade so the next time you just get a random dwarf again that probably isn't the one who traded last time.

Its a feature. Impregnating booze is a planned tech tree for dwarves and this is a sneak peek at it.

As long as your broker has appraisal skill it doesn't matter who trades for you you get to see the prices anyways.

I usually just trade away a few trinkets for something really cheap so I know they will accept, exit out and then make that dwarf my broker and then trade the rest of my stuff :D.
