Here's one other way to play DF over vpn.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Pinch zoom and screen scrolling is a bit wonky. DF decided to zoom out when I wanted to pinch zoom my screen and then center it. On Android that's two fingers pinched together diagonally and then three fingers together moving about the screen. DF took it as two fingers up and down, which is mouse wheel. I'd rather have a hardware wireless keyboard. Onscreen would be okay for adventure mode.

That's great! Can you actually take that on the road with you?

I just need decent wifi and I'm set. My Android tablet can handle bluetooth, wired, or wireless keyboards. My home computer is a corei5 which can run 5x5 embarks without much trouble. The only time I lose the ability to play is if the power goes out at my apartment.

What brand and model tablet do you have?  I  didn't see you mention it anywhere, but I think I see an ASUS logo in your picture?

I'm going to be getting the nvidia tablet here soon.  Was supposed to be my Christmas present to myself from my girlfriend and kids but life costs keep getting in the way.

It's called the MemoPad. If you wait a bit the Asus Transformer Chi models should be out. They run Windows on x86 architecture. The 10" version should run $400 and under. No more VPN and primary desktop needed to play DF.

I did some fact checking--

looks like my ancient Mytouch Slide smartphone meets thier requirements. (arm7 with NEON and VFPv3 (32bits))

I already have a debian system sandboxed, and have root access. (for proper mobile encrypted email and the like)

this is one of those older phones with a hardware slideout keyboard. The resolution is kinda crippled at 800x480, but running in console mode over the terminal emulator should be no problem with this.

It's about as powerful as the open pandora linked by the OP. I just dont want to pay the 30$ that eltech wants for exagear-desktop. :( (the mytouch slide is actually a little heavier, cpu wise. it has a dual core snapdragon, clocked at 1.2ghz. it's the 512mb main memory that's the bitch. DF will chew swap like bubble gum. Maybe a good test of using zram swap?)

on the plus side, this would allow me to run quite a few more things in my debian sandbox though.

Since this phone is rather ancient, quite a few people here should have smartphones powerful enough and with the appropriate cpu capabilities.

on android devices, you can find out easily.  just install an app called "terminal emulator" from the play store (does not require root) then run:

cat /proc/cpuinfo

that should tell you about the cpu in your android phone.  Getting a chroot sandbox up and running is your own problem, though if you have root access, you can try another app called "linux deploy".  You access the sandboxed linux over ssh or vnc, so you will need an ssh client like connectbot to access the local sandbox over the localhost, or you can waste the resources starting and using vnc for a full graphical environment.

I will save up a few pennies and take the plunge some time. It would be funny to finally have DF running on a smartphone.

OK, I took the plunge and paid the 30$ for an exagear desktop license.

My device does appear to be supported, but being a phone, is missing the binfmt_misc module needed for exagear to work. This looks like the major hurdle here.

I am using a comunity rom, and am pulling the kernel sources now. I will recompile with some additional modules enabled, then put the module files in the correct places. With any luck, I will have DF running on my android phone by the weekend.
