Calming advice
« on: January 14, 2015, 08:33:32 am »

I'm soon starting training for a job which is EXTREMELY important to me and my moods have been fluctuating between extreme annoyance at the slightest thing and anxiety about how i'm inevitably going to screw this job up at some point.
Can anyone on bay12 give me advice on ways to calm down (i've already tried breathing techniques and excercise) because I feel like i'm going to have a mental breakdown before I even start training

Lots of exercise keeps your stress levels down throughout the rest of the day. Also avoiding stimulants, alcohol, drugs etc.

I would do mental exercises, like look at your past experiences with this kind of anxiety if you've had it before for the same reason and (I guess?) analyze it and figure out why it's causing you this stress. Just try to pinpoint it; and if you can't, then work in the present mostly to deal with it. Figure out effective coping strategies. Life is trial and error but I can see why you would be worried about it when employers obviously are very judgemental about that kind of stuff in the workplace. I can't give much advice beyond this, just remember however much anxiety or stress this is causing you, you should (imho) spend a proportionate amount of time dealing with your insecurities about this new job.

(I'm not an expert btw. just saw this and decided to reply.)

Thank you for your advice, most of my insecurities are coming out of the fact that this is my first job and I am leaving home for the other side of the country to do it! more excited than anxious but I have bad moments

Drink three cups of strong coffee and listen to something like this?

Oh wait, that's how _I_ prepare to kick ass at a job.

Weed. Happy brownies lead to calm, plus an urge to stuff doritoes in your mouth.
