Mystery of the Lost Tallow

 :o

Anyone else ever notice (or know about) Tallow going awol after calling for fat to be rendered?

I built a kitchen (tallow shop) with a stockpile of fat linked to it, set a render fat job to repeat (I turned off the auto-order is that a bad thing?) and when I looked back a few minutes later it's gone.... the job is done, the fat is gone, and there's no tallow anywhere I can find.

I've even checked the stocks screen and I have nothing at all listed under glob (which I believe includes both tallow and fat.)

Anyone?

Check if you have got any *tallow roast* recently, and try to keep the auto labor on, it is very fast job and don't clutter too much.

Well what do you know.... 17 mule tallow biscuits, 18 horse tallow biscuits.

Damn.  Guess there's a reason to auto-labor afterall.  And I gotta get that tallow out of there asap.

If you want that tallow for soap or anything else, remember to disable cooking in the kitchen menu.

Is there any way to automatically disable cooking of all kinds of tallow and drink?

As it is now, I have to go over the kitchen menu each time something new is brewed or butchered in each fort.

As far as i know, this is not possible yet in vanilla DF. There probably is some kind of DFHack script though.

There is a way, just make your kitchen and still getting only from close fruit/plants stockpile and this stockpile should not accept any tallow (but fat yes, because it must be changed into tallow, right?)

In my fortress dwarves are dying from old age.
Dwarven wine is a little bit like good chicken soup:  solid at room temperature.

Ah yes, this will indeed work, but it's probably more work than enabling cooking everytime.

Nah, it's a one-time setup and I can use a macro to make the marking fast. Thanks, Nikow!
