Carnivorous animals not needing to eat is a placeholder because the game cannot provide them the food they need. Same for invaders of any race who will not starve, unless you add them to your civ with some dfhack fun, then they'll dive into alcohol like dwarves.

Goblins in df are actual minor, minor demons.

I miss when demons could take over human societies and not just goblin ones.

I wonder why you care about goblins not eating but don't ask why tigers and bears don't need food, it would be cool to see wild animals hunting each others...

Currently need for food/drink is only tracked in a limited number of situations. Those are:

Citizens of your fortress and owned grazing animals in your fortress, during fortress mode.
Adventurers, during adventure mode.
Citizens of any site during abstract simulation (worldgen, or post-worldgen for sites other than your fortress or the site where your adventurer is currently located)

In vanilla DF, Goblins are one of the few creatures where both they need not eat/drink, and any of those situations might apply. So it makes sense to wonder why they're the odd one out.
