I always hated having to go to school.

The last time I went to an actual school, it was as an exam invigilator (a job I took on when a particular gap in my career coincided with a the time of year when they needed extra bods to dance between the desks, provide plain paper/pointier pencils and collectively keep the classes quiet). I could not get used to being called "Sir", but probably bluffed them into not actually realising I had twinges of Imposter Syndrome.

Schools (as opposed to further/higher education, maybe) around here went back after Summer a week or three ago. I only really realised this properly when, today, I was out walking and realised it was 'dinner hour' when hearing the general high-pitched 'rumble' and clamour of play-sounds from masses of children from the rough direction of the nearest school. (Over two hill-tops, as the buzzard flies[1]. Might have been helped by atmospheric inversions, in-between the rougher weather, or something similar.)


[1] I also saw a family of buzzards, too. Well, three of them, apparently soaring together and 'surfing' the breeze coming up the windward side of a hill. So probably the parents and a fully-fledged chick not yet gone out into the world for itself. There are other more interesting big birds around the area, but I'll take what I happen to get.
