Who's this handsome devil? Oh wait, it just my reflection! I'll be the "Overlord" of this fortress, but don't let that stop you from having fun! It was my idea to start our little club a year ago, and we've been having so much fun with my various schemes that everyone just sort of unanimously declared me the boss.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The Steward Neshew, which is to say: She's my good friend and makes most of the day-to-day decisions around here, at least when she's in a good enough mood to put up with the zombies' whining anyway.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Alhems is- err- was a banker, I don't know what he'll do now that there aren't any banks. Alhems is sadly lactose-intolerant and has weird ways of coping with his resulting calcium deficiency.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Sekhery is our resident princess, as the daughter of Mayor What'shisface McFigurehead she's lived a bit of a sheltered life compared to the other members of the club. But It was her idea to start eating souls and raising the dead in addition to the magic shows and alchemy we were doing before so she's arguably the most adventurous person here!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Wter was an apprentice at the local Smith's Guild, and he still has a certain fascination with steel, processed meteorites, and metalcrafts in general.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Setwer like orcs and explosions, his antics have gotten the club in a bit of trouble here and there but the no-name township was raided by orcs often enough that nobody really cared if 1 or 2 or 57 POWs went missing every now and then over the year our club's been in operation. Plus, his fireworks displays are just to die for!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Last but not least, we have our resident gemcutter, Thanatos. Thanatos hates everything but cutting things, and to keep him productive, our old town kept him preoccupied with cutting shiny things. Just last week however, the gems just weren't good enough for him, so he cut up the townsfolk instead! Haha! Well I thought it was funny, anyway. Neshew was pissed at him though 'cause the guardsmen blamed our club for the murders and subsequent grave-robbery so they ran us out; and now Neshew can't get her coffee fix.

So to start our heroic tale, the seven of us have just been unfairly evicted from our old base of operations. We only had enough time to grab a few personal belongings which for Setwer apparently meant the entire general goods cart parked outside his apartment along with the orcish shopkeeper who ran it and her gnomish hubby who just happened to be nearby, it's too stupid to make up but at least we didn't have to walk!

Now I don't know what everyone else is thinking, but I'm thinking that this is just the perfect chance to start up a daring adventuring group and I don't know, save a kingdom or something! What could go wrong?

OOC: If the bubbly tone of the overlord hasn't clued you in yet, this fortress is going to be rather different from the usual fare of "evil wizard stories", in that the "big bad guy" in charge has no idea whatsoever that he's actually evil. Raids are "quests", necromancy is "recruiting new members", etc. He's delusional and thinks they're all "heroic adventurers" that keep getting involved in "hilarious misunderstandings" regardless of what actually happens.

I'll be updating when I can depending or RL schedules and length of time it takes me to write everything out. Feel free to claim any 'Locks or undeads, save for the Overlord, he's mine.

1st!

Ahem...

I like the look of this. The writing style sounds intriguing. Kinda reminds me of Zapp Brannigan. Can I be "Warlocked" as Maxcat, Minion?

The purple overseer hat weights heavily on one's head. Some would argue that the leadership of Doomforest is uneasy to bear for too long. Others would simply suggest that we don't craft the next overseer hat out of rutile.

@Maxcat: You get to be the first skeleton, assuming by "minion" you meant "not a warlock", if not then let me know.

@jrrocks1: Absolutely, you can be the gem-cutter. You're also the butcher until I get enough supplies to create a decent workforce.

Second Entry: Well Howdy Neighbor!

We're off to a roaring start on getting our new headquarters set up, Neshew and I agreed that the nearby cave would be perfect in the absence of actual buildings- with a little fixing up anyway. I had Wter take a pick and start carving out some rooms while the rest of us started hauling food down to one of the lower levels. Neshew used a log to patch up the hole leading down to Skher-knows-where and also made a few beds. I figured that was safe enough for the time being so you can imagine my surprise when our resident adventure-princess managed to get her foot ripped off by a werewolf wrestler!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I valiantly charged in for the rescue when I heard her screams, and the others quickly followed my lead. I recognized the monster from one of the many wanted posters hanging outside the old bountyhunter's outpost back at the town. This was none other than Kurri Mintzumoto- a chubby, ginger-furred knave who was supposedly immune to anything that wasn't silver. Unfortunately, our magic-staves were made of copper and so we could only manage glancing blows against him as he casually strangled Sekhery. Fortunately for Sekhery, it seemed there was an additional exception to be made for conjured slade and so it was I that finally put the beast down.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

All things considered, I believe it's really Sekhery that was bravest today. As sheltered as her life has been, it's pretty impressive that she could survive getting her hand cut open, a broken hip, one foot broken in several places and the other foot completely torn off and still be able to smile and even make a few witty quips about the whole thing. I've taken her off of hauling duty ahead of schedule since walking with only one foot is only going to inconvenience everyone here if she also has to carry supplies.

In the mean time, it'd be terrible to let such a fierce opponent go unremembered wouldn't it? I was planning on making a tomb for the warrior, but Thanatos convinced me of an equally honorable alternative. I mean sure, he was half-man, but the other half was a wolf so surely it's at least half-okay to see how the meat tastes. And it's not like he's using his skin, bones or soul anymore so why not put them to use again? So I agreed to let Thanatos do what he wanted with the corpse, and went down to the food stores to have lunch. Emu eggs sound fantastic after a workout like that.

Third Entry: What's Cookin' Dead Lookin'?

Today I woke up to the spectacle of Setwer sniffing his porkchops with a odd look on his face. It wasn't until later that Thanatos revealed that he had butchered the orc and her husband- apparently on my orders to do whatever he wanted with corpses. Setwer for his part looked only mildly offended, while Thanatos and I had a long discussion about life, death, and morality and we eventually came to the agreement that it was fine as long as we brought them back to life so they didn't die pointlessly- which he did. And in the zombies' endless gratitude they immediately picked up the slack in hauling and mining that Sekhery's injury and Wetr's boredom created- not quite as talkative though.

While I was discussing that business with Thanatos, Wetr and Neshew drew up a map of our current living arrangements, as it stands from the top down:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Considering how well we were initially received by the neighborhood welcoming committee, it was no surprise that most us us didn't feel like risking and end to our tale before it really began without some decent armor- but we also need food and all of that was outside. I admit I was stumped at first, but Neshew came through with a brilliant idea: we'll get the wildlife to hunt themselves for us, to do this she grabbed the gnome's skull and made a sacred totem with it in the chapel. The idea as she explained it was to lure animals from beyond the grave with the gnome's affinity for nature, then upon revival the beasts would be so overjoyed at their eternal lives that they'd gladly assist us in any endeavor simple enough for them to understand- much like the gnome and his wife were when we raised their remains as zombies.

I'd like to request a ghouling. Preferably the heavily upgraded form, otherwise make his goal to become the two-headed, four-armed ghoul he always knew he will be. :)

Oh no problem, I haven't gotten any immigrants yet but there's this 2-headed, 4-armed ghoul that's shown up in the last 3 warlock forts I made on this world so it's probably just a matter of time.
