Has anyone paved the entire Circus?
« on: December 30, 2014, 08:26:10 pm »

WARNING; This thread contains discussion of the end game, turn back now.

I know a handful of Forts have successfully colonized Hell to varying degrees; building obsidian cubes and the like.  However, I am unable to find any instances of a Fortress actually defeating the entirety of Hell.  Based on my admittedly limited incursions, seems that Demons can spawn both from Pits and the map edge.  Would it be possible to Floor the entire layer and construct Walls at the furthest edges?

I think this would count.

When I stopped reading a while back, there was a wall sealing off 2/3 of the edges, the masons were living inside a glowing pit, and the farmers were growing strawberries under a conveniently-placed skylight.

That is simply brilliant :)  Something to aspire towards.  I wonder if a community fortress would be capable of such a Dwarvenly feat of engineering.

Well topologically, it is same as building a large enough room in hell.
So why not?

Another fun way to conquer the HFS:

This one uses undead birds, but last I checked it was only to the "reaching into hell" phase, not quite to actually taking over yet...

Undead are badass.

VERY badass. I'm not sure how it happened, but a wereskink attacking one of my forts was apparently a thrall or something, as all it's extremities were rotted like a thrall.

Well if there's one undead in your cavern, it will turn others into undead, then more and more.
Problems is, those undead animals don't leave map like their normal counterparts so soon you get an undead army.

Hmm, never occured to me.  By the time you get down there and clear it, any major building project at <10 FPS would be a pretty serious chore just frame-rate wise.
