Coward war animals?
« on: January 01, 2015, 10:39:21 pm »

Well I pastured a stray war elephant near my gate hoping it would fend off those invaders.
But it was scared by an wereskink and never fought back.
So what gives?

I bought another elephant from the elves, maybe I should just turn them into roasts?

Are elephants war trainable? Did you just mod them? Either way, maybe your elephant doesn't have enough discipline and got scare by the wereskink.

Its a feature. Impregnating booze is a planned tech tree for dwarves and this is a sneak peek at it.
Unless you're past reproductive age. Then you're pretty much an extension of your kids' genitalia

Pretty sure elephants have always been war trainable...

Wereskinks are scary man! Have you ever seen a seven foot tall skink walking on two legs, charging at you with glowing red eyes?

That makes sense. However the elephant still acts like a normal glazer, scared by something like a falcon flying overhead.

Yeah, it killed something: a giant hamster who wandered into its pasture.

Sounds like a Disney movie. The trained war elephant who hates fighting & just wants to make beautiful pots.

Edit: What are the other trainable non-dogs? Grizzlies? Do they work properly?

Grizzlies are trainable, I'm breeding them in my current fort.
They're non-grazers so that should avoid the problem.

I second Pirate Santa's sentiment. I had a couple of war elephants, but suddenly they strayed from their pasture and started roaming the fortress. I found the first one starving and tried to slaugher it, but is starved first. When the second one strayed downwards I slaughtered it to avoid a repeat of the first one's fate (and the ensuing miasma, since dorfs are lousy cleaners).

Most large cats can be war trained, as can grizzlies, polar bears, and gorillas (and gorillas are not grazers, despite having a vegetarian diet). Basically, look at the wiki when you find some interesting animal.
