This has been the biggest advantage of the new auto-mining designation for me. It probably does nothing for my efficiency, but I've found that building a fortress by expanding old mineshafts into full-sized rooms wherever I can gives a much more natural feel than the corridor-grid patterns that tended to pop up in my fortresses prior to the latest round of updates.

It certainly would feel more dwarfy to have the whole fort built following the flow of gold or iron through the stone.

I like having order for my forts, one floor for nobles/prisoners, one for workshops, one floor for general populace, one for non grazing animals, and farming. Not in that order mind, qll the other floors are mines
