Bed under a tree
« on: December 21, 2014, 01:40:51 am »

I was wondering why my dorfs began to collect vermin corpses from outside when I found tiles under tree branches were actually treated as inside.
So it is possible to live in the wild after all.

The bedroom will be in bad shape, but should work.

Yup. That's because "inside" means "has a solid tile above it".

Anyway, good luck with leaving dwarves defenseless out in the open!

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

How old is this fort? As far as i can tell, this kind of "outside inside" area only exists under "trunk" tiles (i.e. under fairly old trees that branch into wider trunks above the surface) and possibly also only after the trees have gone through some amount of growth after embark. All tiles under trees qualify as "outside" at embark for me.

8 years.
It happened recently like I said.
I had to autodump all the vermin remains or my dorfs just went out to collect them. :P

Fun fact: After an unretire treeleaves and branches count as 'ground level access'. So you can get werecreatures, invasion forces and theoretically even caravans arriving on top of trees.

Camel on a tree.

It seems I don't have to unretire.
